Three soldiers died in two skirmishes on Wednesday night on the Jaffna peninsula while the fourth was killed in a mortar bomb attack in the district of Trincomalee, the ministry said in a statement.
The clashes came after peacebroker Norway announced that Sri Lanka had agreed to unconditional talks with the rebels, who are fighting for an independent Tamil homeland.
The Colombo government said Wednesday it will attend the talks next month in a bid to halt escalating violence that has left over 1,500 people dead since December.
