On Monday, it secured an order from the Nashik chief judicial magistrate allowing it to interrogate some people in Uttar Pradesh who allegedly played a role in the blast. One of the people to be questioned is said to be a legislator from the eastern part of the state.

ATS counsel Ajay Misar told HT over the phone that the court had given the squad the go-ahead, but he declined to disclose the identities of the people, saying, “It’s classified. The details weren’t even shared with the court.” Asked if those to be questioned had a political background, Misar said, “They’re high-profile, but not politicians.”

The ATS moved court after the Uttar Pradesh police refused it permission to interrogate these people. “The officers told us to come with a formal court order, if we wanted to question the suspects,” a source said on condition of anonymity. The ATS has discreetly conducted operations in Farrukhabad and eastern UP and found some vitals leads. Lt Col Srikant Purohit’s interrogation led it to Uttar Pradesh.
