AU move to check admission of student leaders falls flat

THE MOVE initiated by Allahabad University (AU) to check admission of student leaders into varsity seems to have been defeated as many of them have been able to get into despite the fact that they already possessed a post-graduate degree.

It may be recalled that AU authorities had demanded affidavits from the PG candidates to ensure that the they did not conceal their past academic records and gave valid reasons for admission to the post-graduate course.

The move was just to prevent entry of such student leaders who have been studying in the varsity as regular students for past several years and intended to continue their studies in the varsity reportedly with the intention to become eligible to contest for the students' union election.The sources say that the affidavits have been submitted by the candidates and the candidates have been granted admission by many a departments in absence of any concrete law to check admission of such candidates.

Director PG Admission Committee 2006-07, Prof A Satyanarain said ' we are bound to grant admissions to the eligible candidates as per rules and such admissions can be checked until and unless the maximum age for admissions was fixed by the ordinances of the varsity.
