Bharath Raj of India had a miserable day while Austrian Lucas Auer was dominant yet again.The 14-year-old Indian, driving for Team Meritus, crashed out in the final race of the second round at the JK Racing Asia series on Sunday.
Raj was well set to finish 12th, but was hit by another car on the last corner of the last lap.
“Pasin Lathouras tried to overtake but couldn't control the steering and hit my car," said a heartbroken Raj. His car was badly damaged on the rear left side.
Auer had no such problems as he held on for victory over Malaysia's Irfan Ilyas by a margin of 0.9 seconds.
Auer, who will be managed by Formula One legend Niki Lauda, kept a cool head throughout. “A big thanks to my team staff. It was a great weekend. The JK series has been a great exposure and it is the right place to start and go to the next level,” said the nephew of former F1 driver, Gerhard Berger.
“It is a passion, I am devoting my fulltime to this sport,” said Auer, who even quit studies to focus on the event. Raj is focussed on the Indonesian round. “I have to do well in that round to finish well,” he said.
