Award-winning authors Larissa Behrendt, Isobelle Carmody and Luke Davies are also here to accentuate Australia's participation at the upcoming Kolkata Book Fair.

Australian high commissioner to India John McCarthy Friday formally launched AusArts: Celebrating Australian Art And Culture 2006-07'.

Poet Ashok Vajpayee engaged the writer troika in conversation regarding their output, prospects and reflections. This was preceded by readings that fairly electrified the audience, especially Carmody's Shadow story, which brought out resounding claps.

Carmody, author of The Gathering, confessed that she tries "not to name-drop" countries she visits, like India or France.

Davies, whose book Candy has been turned into a film awaiting release, said: "Like most writers, I write in isolation. It is an autistic existence until publishers parade us for book fairs or readings."

The AusArts programme will include music, especially jazz, cinema and theatre performances apart from the planned literary razzle-dazzle.
