Two of Indian cinema's icons, Rajnikanth and Amitabh Bachchan, will be part of the opening ceremony at the (IFFI). Bachchan will be the chief guest, while Rajnikanth will be honoured with the Special Centenary Award - which is an annual prize given to a movie personality.

China will be the focus of the festival this year, and there are plans to release Indian films in that country. The celebrated Chinese director, Wong Kar Wai, will be given a Lifetime Achievement Award.
Special tributes are planned for Richard Attenborough, Robbie Williams, Zohra Sehgal, Suchitra Sen, Sadashiv Amrapurkar, Farooq Sheikh and AK Nageswara Rao.
A retrospective of this year's Dada Saheb Phalke winner, Gulzar, will be yet another highlight.
