A passerby heard the infant howling and informed the police. Later, the child was shifted to the civil hospital. Doctors said the girl is stable and taking normal feed after every two hours.

Dr Vinni Rastogi, a paediatrician, said, “The child weighs 1.8 kgs. Though initially we faced problem in feeding the baby but now she is normal.”

Earlier on April 18, another newborn girl was found abandoned at Dundahera.

She was one-and-a-half months premature and suffering from jaundice. On April 12, a 45-day-old child was found abandoned under a tree at the civil hospital.

Alka Lamba, founder and chairperson of Go India Foundation which works for the cause of the girl child, said, “We are spending so much time and energy to create awareness but the ground reality is something different. Big names are associated with the campaign to save the girl child but people still consider a daughter as a burden.”
