Bad day for Indian paddlers, except Sharath

Achanta Sharath Kamal comfortably reached the men's singles round of 16 on an otherwise bad day for the Indian paddlers in the Asian Gamesin Doha on Monday.

Sharath, seeded 13th, scripted a 11-6, 11-7, 13-15, 11-5, 11-9 win over Kien Doan Quoc of Vietnam to enter the prequarterfinal, where he faces Chiang Peng Lung of Chinese Taipei on Tuesday.

Kien, however got the revenge as he, partnering Quang Dinh, beat Sharath and Soumyadeep Roy 9-11, 9-11, 9-11 to pack the Indians off.

The women's doubles pair of Mouma Das and Poloumi Ghatak advanced to the second round after getting the better of Lara Kejebachian and So Sahakiam of Lebanon by 11-7, 11-6, 12-14, 11-5.

The other women's pair of Kasturi Chakraborty and Mousumi Pal bowed out after going down tamely 9-11, 2-11, 6-11 to the Japanese pair of Ai Fujinuma and Ai Fukuhara.

There was curtains for national champion Mouma and Ghatak in the singles race. Das lost 6-11 11-7 8-11 5-11 6-11 to KomWong Nanthana of Thailand in the second round.

Ghatak also bowed out of the singles charts after going down by 7-11, 6-11, 2-11, 12-10, 4-11 to Ling Lin of Hong Kong.
