Bajaj Auto on Monday launched its new 100 cc motorcycle Discover 100T at the top end of the mass market category to compete with Honda Dream Yuga and Hero Passion Pro for a volume of around 125,000 units a month.
Discover 100T with 100 km top speed and 87 kilometre per litre is priced at Rs.50,500 (ex-showroom Delhi).
With this Bajaj wants to enhance its presence in the 100cc commuter category, which accounts for 65% of the motorcycle market, with a volume of around 500,000 units a month.
At present, Bajaj commands 26% market share in this segment with 130,000-150,000 units a month.
The newly launched model can add another 45,000 units to our monthly volume, said Rajiv Bajaj, MD, Bajaj Auto.
Bajaj Discover 100T also comes from the platform of 125cc Discover ST.
“We invested Rs. 20-30 crore on the platform and made an additional investment of Rs. 6 crore for the new bike. We will launch another model on the same platform later this year,” said Bajaj.
Bajaj has bigger models in its Discover and Pulsar series of bikes slated for launch later this year. “We have reasons to hope that our market share will go up from the current 26%,” he said.

Mahindra Two-wheelers, which launched its Pantero and Centuro bikes last week also said they want to position these bikes at the high end.
