Baltal incident: Governor calls for calm

The Jammu and Kashmir governor NN Vohra, also head of Shri Amarnath Shrine Board, called for calm following groups clashes at the base camp of Baltal in north-east of Srinagar.

The Jammu and Kashmir governor NN Vohra, also head of Shri Amarnath Shrine Board, called for calm following groups clashes at the base camp of Baltal in north-east of Srinagar.

Vohra asked board’s chief executive officer (CEO) Rakesh Kumar Gupta to monitor situation himself.

The governor also called the chief minister Omar Abdullah and discussed the matter. The chief minister rushed Kashmir' divisional commissioner Shailendra Kumar and inspector general of police Abdul Ghani Mir to the spot to assess the situation and contain it.

He also spoke to the president of SABLO, the apex Langar organization, Vijay Thakur, and urged him to ensure restoration of harmony, essential for the satisfactory progress of the yatra.
