Unable to bear the agony of being abducted and allegedly raped by two youth, a 15-year-old girl of Ghuman village, 28 km from here, in Gurdaspur district consumed poison and died at an Amritsar hospital on Friday morning.
Police said the girl, a student of class 9, had consumed the poison on Wednesday evening at her house in Ghuman village after she managed to escape the clutches of the two youth. The youth had allegedly taken her to secluded place and raped her.
Batala SSP Tulsi Ram told HT, “The girl’s father, Ravi Kumar, has complained that she was abducted by the two youth on Wednesday. After reaching home in the evening, she attempted suicide by consuming some poisonous substance.”
She was rushed to a hospital in Batala the same night but was referred to Shri Guru Ram Das Hospital in Amritsar on Thursday.
The police have registered a case under Section 363 (kidnapping), 366-A, 306 (abetment of suicide), 511 and 120-B of the IPC against the two absconding accused, Harvinder Singh and Money, who are reportedly in their 20s.
Since the girl was not in a position to give a statement, the SSP said, “The case has been registered on her father’s complaint. However, we will look into the post-mortem report to ascertain if there is any indication of rape. We will add that section as well.”
