SINCE JOBS were becoming scarce and uncertain throughout the globe young persons should aspire to become successful entrepreneurs and set new ideals as job providers, said an IIT alumnus and a member of The Boston Pledge, USA Partha S Ghosh while delivering the inaugural address at an entrepreneurship workshop held at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT-K) here on Friday.
Ghosh said that even in the USA the job market had become very risky and this was the reason why most of the people there preferred to be an entrepreneur.
At present there were over 25 million entrepreneurs in the country, he said.
Referring to the environment for entrepreneurship in this country, he said, it lacked energy and new technology education. Also, neglected agriculture and the fragmented society had slowed down the pace of entrepreneurship. More and more young people were becoming interested in service sector instead of opting to start production units.
Besides, the country was facing several problems in the rural sector. This sector lacked good schools, low-cost treatment in hospitals and availability of good doctors. He said that there were ample opportunities in the country as well as abroad for entrepreneurs if they tried to select the best out of several industrial ventures. He advised youths to take initiative for starting small ventures.
He further said that for becoming a successful entrepreneur one needed to develop leadership quality within oneself by adopting the philosophy of “Divine Within and Ego Outside”. An entrepreneur should also develop the quality of believing in oneself, continuity in work, making extremely good communication and widening the knowledge circle to face the global challenges.

SMALL INDUSTRIES Development Bank of India (SIDBI) Innovation and Incubation Centre at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT-K) had approved a unique software project which would provide definite information about weather conditions six months in advance.
The software to be developed at the Centre would primarily be used for ascertaining the weather conditions in connection with ‘weather risk insurance of the crops’. Sonu Agarwal, a BTech student of the institute, had submitted the project to the SIDBI Centre, which was approved last month. Sonu has started work on developing the software.
Stress on Hindi teaching
DEPUTY DIRECTOR, IIT-K, Dr Kripa Shankar laid emphasis on maximum use of Hindi in imparting engineering lessons in the country.
He was speaking at a seminar “Rajbhasa Hindi mein chikitsa ewam takniki anusandhan ewam vikas”, organized during the Hindi Week celebrations at Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), Kanpur here on Friday.
Citing the example of China where engineering classes are conducted in the mother tongue, he reasoned that the same could be done here too.
Dr Rajiv Bhargava of GSVM Medical College said that study material of medical and engineering courses could be changed from English to Hindi. He gave the example of Maharashtra where the pre-medical examination is conducted in Marathi and rest in English.
