Chief Ministers of newly-formed states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, who are sparring over several issues, are competing with each other in reaching out to families who lost their kin in the Beas drowning incident in Himachal Pradesh on Sunday evening.

Telangana CM K Chandrasekhara Rao has ordered rescue action on behalf of the state, sending state home minister Narasimha Reddy and senior officials to the spot.

Soon after his oath taking ceremony, Andhra Pradesh chief minister Chandrababu Naidu too swung into action. He is understood to have spoken to home minister Rajnath Singh, who attended his swearing-in, for deployment of NDRF teams to the site.

On Monday, both governments arranged aircraft to take the families of the victims to Chandigarh and from there to the accident site near Mandi and back.

Both were in touch with HP CM Virbhadra Singh over the incident. The engineering students from VNR Vignana Jyothi Institute of Engineering and Technology were on a study tour.
