Union minister of state for parliamentary affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on Saturday said the beef row was blown out of proportion.
Referring to the Dadri lynching last month, Naqvi said beef hardly affected the minority community, as their main issues were education, employment, health and development.
Naqvi had come to participate in the Muharram procession in his native village Bhadari on Saturday.
Earlier, the minister spoke to journalists at the Circuit House.
Disapproving the recent controversial remark by his ministerial colleague VK Singh, he said leaders needed to choose their words carefully.
Replying to a query, Naqvi said VK Singh was not a seasoned politician. “He’s still learning. And that’s why he sometimes speaks out of over enthusiasm. I respect his feelings, but he should have avoided giving such a statement. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had already warned his ministers in this regard. Likewise, Shatrughan Sinha is an old friend. Sometimes, he becomes restless. After all, he is an actor,” he said.
Asked about the arbitrary rise in the price of pulses, the minister said the government was taking stock of the situation and would soon come with a solution, urging that the issue not be politicised.
He alleged the price was increasing because of hoarding and the UP government had failed in checking this practice, adding that the other state governments were also not cooperating in this matter.
