The one-day bandh called by the BJP in Bhandara district in protest against the rape and murder of three sisters evoked a good response.

Activists blocked national highway number 6 that passes through Bhandara and Lakhni where bodies of three minor sisters, were found in a well.

A group of irate villagers also staged a protest before the police station and the national highway this afternoon. No untoward incident was reported from any part of the district during the bandh.

Most of the schools and colleges in the district remained closed while shops and commercial establishment downed their shutters.

Barring a few state run road transport buses, autos and private buses did not play in many parts in the district.

The three sisters, aged-six, nine and eleven of Murmadi village in the district, some 150 kms from Nagpur, went missing from their school on February 14. Their bodies were found in a well on February 16.

The medical report revealed that they were raped and sodomised before being.

Lakhni police station officer, Prakash Munde was suspended on Tuesday for dereliction of his duty.

"The police launched a manhunt to nab the culprits while an amount of Rs. 50,000 reward was announced for giving clues on the murderers," informed Rajendra Singh, the IG of Nagpur range.
