AUTHORITIES OF Banaras Hindu University nabbed two candidates having passed BAMS entrance examination through unfair means during the counselling session here on Wednesday.
The arrested ‘Munna Bhais’ were produced in court and sent in 14-day judicial custody. The arrested youths have been identified as Sanjeev Kumar Yadav, a resident of Atauli village in Chandauli and Sanjay Kumar, a resident of Allapur in Allahabad.
The counselling of BAMS course for admission in Ayurveda Faculty was underway on Wednesday when the counsellors found a mismatch between the signatures of these two youths during the time of examination and counselling.
Soon the counsellors handed the two cheaters over to the Proctorial Board. The BHU Proctorial Board handed the two cheaters over to Lanka Police Station and lodged an FIR.
The arrested youths were reported to have accepted that some other candidates had appeared in the entrance examination on false identification.
Sanjeev Kumar Yadav had paid a sum of Rs. 2.5 lakh to Munna Ram, a third year MBBS student of the IMS-BHU, to appear on his behalf in the entrance examination.
Sanjay Kumar said that he had paid a sum of Rs. 1.25 lakh to two persons in Allahabad to ensure smooth passage in the entrance examination. He failed to reveal who appeared on his behalf in the entrance examination.
BHU authorities launched a massive interrogation drive to identify the IMS-BHU student who had appeared on behalf of Sanjeev Kumar Yadav. Dean of IMS-BHU, Prof Saroj Churamani Gopal said that efforts were on to identify the third year student who had appeared on behalf of Sanjeev. “Strict disciplinary action will be taken against the student who had appeared in place of Sanjeev in the entrance examination,” said Prof Gopal.
