Bid to make Ganga free of pollution

CITIZENS HAVE formed a ‘Sarvmangla Ganga Pravah Pradushan Mukti Manch’ at a meeting held at Yamuna Bank Road here on Monday with an objective to make Ganga free from pollution.

Addressing the meeting, the newly-elected State general secretary Rajendra Paliwal said the organisation had a greater responsibility in view of the coming Ardh Kumbh in 2007. Several nullahs were polluting the Ganga water in the city and administration had not taken any step so far to divert them to another place so that people could bathe in clean water in the Sangam. He presented the details the organisation that were resolved in different meetings held in Kanpur, Hardwar, Begusarai, Patna and New Delhi against existing pollution in Ganga. Kamlesh Singh vice president of the organisation said they would launch a special campaign to create awareness among citizens on the issue. General secretary Ram Krishna Tiwari said officials concerned would be gheraoed by the organisation soon. Gopal Mishra said, the objective to clean Ganga from Gangotri to Ganga Sagar would be fulfilled soon.

A delegation of the manch would meet the district magistrate to apprise him of the fact that Ganga Action Plan Department here was working very slowly despite the fact that Ardh Kumbh fair was scheduled to be held in January 2007.
