ACTIVISTS OF the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), including women, were thrashed by the railway police when they tried to prevent the Delhi-bound Shatabdi Express from leaving the Charbagh station at its scheduled departure time of 3.35 pm, on Friday.

Around 3 pm, the BJYM activists, carrying party flags, fetched up at the station.

As their number swelled to 30, some of the party activists squatted around the engine of the train, while others sat right on the tracks. Raising slogans against the State and the Central governments for hike in fuel prices and rising incidents of cow slaughter in UP, some of them climbed on the engine forcing the police to act.

Many of them squatted before the engine of the super fast train giving shivers to the railway police who rushed to clear the track. Several party workers were injured when cops resorted to a lathi-charge after the agitating BJYM activists refused to relent. Some railway cops, including GRP inspector Mahavir Chaudhary were also injured when BJYM activists attacked them after the cops tried to remove them from the tracks. Some electronic media persons, too, sustained injuries during the clash between the BJYM activists and the railway police.

But, Rajeev Mishra, president of BJYM, city unit, demanded action against the railway cops. The women members of the BJYM alleged that the cops misbehaved with them and indulged in loot. The BJYM has said that if action was not initiated against the GRP inspector, the party workers would stage a sit-in at the Vidhan Sabha.
