When have a father and son duo ruled over a kingdom at the same time? Here’s a clue: It’s in Bollywood, and happening right now.

No prizes for guessing: It’s the Bachchans who share this rare honour. On the one hand we have Big B with his memorable, multifaceted roles, still going strong and on the other we have Abi baby with his intense looks and eyes to die for, who is evolving slowly as an actor.

At Vox populi, we rightly assumed that the responses would be divided about who the better actor is. While our surfers admired Big B for his talent and versatility, chhota Bachchan came in for his share of praise too, with a majority of them saying he should be given time to prove his mettle.

Here, for instance, is what a surfer called Chiya who wrote in from Dubai had to say: “The father has shown to the world that he is undoubtedly a superb actor. The son has just joined the industry and has many, many years to go. Give him 30 years and then we will think of comparisons.”

Echoing this view was a surfer, Sunder Aswani from Tennessee, USA. He said: “Comparing any young actor with Amitabh is not fair, because it took years for Amitabh to become Amitabh. Let us give Abhishek a few more years and few more films with the likes of Karan Johar, Yash Chopra, Aditya Chopra & Sanjay Bhansali. Then I’m sure he’ll become as good as his dad the great Amitabh Bachchan.”

Particularly interesting was a comment from Kamal who wrote in from Mississauga. He was of the opinion that: “Amitabh is ripe and classy like vintage shiraz. And Abhishek is fresh, energetic and dynamic, just like young merlot.”

However, Big B did stand tall as the ultimate star of Bollywood. Many of our surfers wrotein to say how they fondly remembered their hero in movies like Sholay, Deewar, Amar Akbar Anthony and more recently, Black. They were unequivocal in saying that Amitabh has and always will be, their icon.
