Bill to halt demolitions tabled in Lok Sabha

The moratorium will enable changes in the master plan after taking into account ground realities.

Bowing to large-scale demand to halt ongoing demolitions and sealing of commercial establishments in the capital, Government on Friday introduced a bill in the Lok Sabha to put a moratorium on them for a year to enable changes in the master plan after taking into account ground realities.

Moving the bill, Urban Development Minister S Jaipal Reddy said the Government proposed to take into account various demands in the megametropolis including the need to accommodate grievance of migrant workers employed in the city.
