THE BUREAU of Indian Standards (BIS) conducted raids at various motor engine sellers in the State capital on Tuesday and recovered several engines with fake ISI mark.

Two prominent motor engine sellers on Hamidia Road were also raided and diesel engines, A/C generators and motors with fake ISI marks were recovered. Legal action is being initiated against the sellers.
With a view to stop the misuse of ISI mark, raids are being conducted in various cities of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. The Head of the Bhopal branch office of BIS, K C Trivedi has appealed to the customers to examine the mark carefully while buying products.
The misuse of ISI mark is a punishable offence, he said adding that under Section 33 there is a provision for a fine of Rs 50,000 or one year imprisonment for the offence.
