Bishnoi, who visited the flood-hit areas in the district, said it was unfortunate that the Bhupinder Singh Hooda government had not paid any attention to save the lives, property, crops and livestock in the areas located along Yamuna and Markanda rivers.

“There is an urgent need to construct dams to tap gushing waters of the rivers in the monsoons. We are seeing widespread damage done by these overflowing rivers in the past few years but the Hooda government had nothing in this regard,” he said.

Bishnoi added that his late father and former chief minister Bhajan Lal was a strong votary for construction of an expressway along the Yamuna in Haryana.

“If such a project is undertaken, the embankments would be much higher and the river would not able to cause damage to villages located on its banks. But the Congress government is not concerned about the problems of the region,” he said.
