UNION MINISTER of State for Home Sri Prakash Jaiswal on Friday gave an official invitation to Bharat Ratna awardee and shehnai maestro Ustad Bismillah Khan to perform at India Gate in New Delhi on July 15.
It was the long cherished desire of Bismillah Khan, who also played shehnai from the ramparts of the Red Fort on August 15, 1947, to render Shehnai at India Gate.
It may be mentioned that Bismillah Khan had expressed this desire to play the shehnai at India Gate while he was celebrating his 90th birthday at his residence on March 25.
Jaiswal said that the Congress and the UPA Government at the centre had considered the wish of Bismillah Khan to render shehnai at India Gate in New Delhi and he was here to invite him for the purpose, adding that Khan Saheb would also be felicitated at India Gate on this occasion.
He said that Ustad Bismillah Khan had always rendered shehnai recitals to strengthen unity, integrity and brotherhood in the country. He hoped that the sound of shehnai at India Gate in New Delhi on July 15 would also spread the message of brotherhood and communal harmony.
Ustad was in a pleasant mood and overwhelmed to receive the invitation.
