BJP change of guard: Who’s in, who’s out

Prime minister Narendra Modi aide and former party general secretary Amit Shah took over the post of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president on Wednesday. Former party president Rajnath Singh has resigned from the post at an event in New Delhi.

Prime minister Narendra Modi aide Amit Shah took over the post of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president on Wednesday. Former party president Rajnath Singh has resigned from the post at an event in New Delhi.

The current who's who in the BJP family stand as following:

Vice-Presidents
Uma Bharti: The minister for water resources will quit her organisational post
Smriti Irani: The HRD minister will not be in the new team of office-bearers
Jual Oram: A leader from Odisha, he was made tribal affairs minister. Will quit organisational post

General Secretaries
Thawar Chand Gehlot: The social justice minister will not be a part of the new team
Dharmendra Pradhan: The BJP’s young face, Pradhan became MoS for petroleum and natural gas
Ananth Kumar: The seniormost general secretary. Will be replaced by a new face
Amit Shah: His elevation to president has also created a vacancy for the post of general secretary. P Murlidhar Rao may also be dropped as an organisational office-holder

Spokespersons
Prakash Javadekar: A prominent TV face of the party, Javadekar is now I&B minister
Nirmala Sitharaman: The first-time MP was appointed commerce minister in the Narendra Modi government. She will quit her office of party spokesperson.
