BJP-Cong workers scuffle in Gujarat; four injured

BJP workers complained of allegedly being beaten up by Congress activists when they were returning from a booth.

Four persons were injured in a scuffle between BJP and Congress workers at a polling booth in Valsad while a complaint was filed against the brother of a Congress candidate in Junagadh during polling for 26 Lok Sabha seats in Gujarat today, official sources said.

The scuffle broke out between supporters of BJP and Congress at Dharampur taluka polling booth in Valsad Parliamentary constituency, in which four persons were injured. Two of the injured were hospitalised, the sources said.

However, the District Superintendent of Police, Valsad said: "No one was injured. Timely police intervention brought the situation under control".

Meanwhile, an FIR against brother of Congress candidate Jasubhai Barad contesting from Junagadh and eight other was filed at Talala Police station for allegedly beating up BJP workers and snatching gold chain in early hours, District Superintendent of police, A J Savani told PTI.

BJP workers complained of allegedly being beaten up with lathis and iron roads by Congress activists when they were returning from a polling booth after making arrangements.

Congress alleged that victims of post-Godhra riots in Saugadh area of Himmatnagar and Kadi in Mehsana Parliamentary constituencies were prevented from casting their votes by policemen.
