BJP declares candidates for by-polls

THE BJP on Tuesday announced candidates for two Lok Sabha and one Assembly constituencies, where by-elections are scheduled to take place on March 8.

THE BJP on Tuesday announced candidates for two Lok Sabha and one Assembly constituencies, where by-elections are scheduled to take place on March 8.

After the BJP Parliamentary Board’s meeting in Delhi, names of candidates for the three constituencies were announced. Accordingly, Minister for Culture & Tourism Yashodhara Raje Scindia will be the party candidate for the Gwalior Lok Sabha seat, former member of Scheduled Tribes’ Commission Kunwar Singh will contest from the Sidhi Lok Sabha seat and former minister Rampal Singh’s wife Shashi

Prabha Singh will be the party candidate from the Udaipura Assembly seat. Gwalior and Sidhi seats had fallen vacant after the sitting members were disqualified by the Lok Sabha Speaker when they were shown demanding bribe for asking question in the Lok Sabha on a private news channel, the Udaipura Assembly seat had fallen vacant following resignation of former minister Rampal Singh, who had contested and won the Vidisha Lok Sabha by-poll.

The BJP State Election Committee had met on Monday and the panel of names for the three by-polls was recommended to the BJP Parliamentary Board, which met in Delhi on Tuesday and decided the candidates.

Other major political parties like the Congress, Bharatiya Janshakti and Samajwadi Party are yet to announce their candidates.
