BJP expels 8 MPs who cross-voted or abstained

The decision to expel the MPs was taken at a high-level meeting earlier in the day at the residence of Leader of Opposition and senior BJP leader LK Advani.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday expelled eight of its Lok Sabha MPs for either cross-voting or abstaining during the confidence vote in the Parliament on Tuesday.

The expelled MPs are Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, Somabhai Patel, K Manjunath and HT Sangliana (for cross-voting), as also Manorama Madhwaraj, Chandrabhan Singh, Harising Rathod and Babubhai Katara (for abstaining), BJP president Rajnath Singh announced at a press conference in New Delhi.

The decision to expel the MPs was taken at a high-level meeting earlier in the day at the residence of Leader of Opposition and senior BJP leader LK Advani.

Addressing the press conference, Advani said: "Had the cross-voting not taken place, the UPA government would not have won."
