"The successful Finance Minister of 1991, Manmohan Singh, who set the ball of economic reforms rolling, has totally failed as Prime Minister, so far as the economy of the country is concerned", Kalia, also a cabinet minister of Punjab told reporters in Jalandhar.

Accusing Singh of totally surrendering his economic vision to Sonia Gandhi and UPA allies in order to save his office, Kalia said the Prime Minister watched helplessly as the country's GDP fell from 8.4 per cent to five per cent and the prices of essential commodities shot up.

"While prices of essential commodities in almost all the countries witnessed a sharp decline during global economic meltdown, in India their prices, especially food grains spiralled, which shows that there is something seriously wrong with the UPA's policies," he said.
