BJP'slandslide victory in Gujarat Assembly elections had its echo on Monday in Lok Sabha where the jubilant BJP and other ruling NDA members were seen congratulating each other.
Some of them in saffron kurta(shirt) and scarves hugged each other and exchanged pleasantries before the House assembled this morning after a two-day break.
Several members walked up to Deputy Prime Minister LK Advani seated in the front row and congratulated him.
Members of the Congress Party, which suffered badly in the Gujarat polls, alongwith their leader Sonia Gandhi kept a low profile.
Soon after the members greeted a visiting Parliamentary Turkish delegation seated in the special box to witness the proceedings after the House assembled, BJP member Kirit Somaiya suggested that the Election Commission and the people of Gujarat too should be felicitated.
BJP'sspectacular victory in Gujarat has "silenced" the Congress Party, Somaiya said.
Over a dozen Congress members reacted sharply and they were on their feet protesting the BJP member's remark with their Chief Whip Priyaranjan Dasmunsi asserting their fight against communalism would continue.
Speaker Manohar Joshi, however, pacified them and went ahead with the Question Hour.
