Lashing out at the UPA government over its "silence" on the Nandigram episode, BJP on Sunday decided to send a high level team to the violence-hit areas of West Bengal to assess the situation on the ground.

The party will raise the issue during the upcoming parliament session as it alleged that West Bengal's CPI (M) government was being protected by the Centre despite Governor Gopal Krishna Gandhi's report and continuing violence in Nandigram.

"The CPI (M) is 'Centre protected murderers'. The Nandigram violence has exposed the real face of the communist party," BJP Vice President Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said in New Delhi.

Describing the Centre's silence as "unfortunate", he said the Congress-led ruling coalition was only interested in saving the government.

"The Central government is only shedding crocodile tears and doing nothing on the ground despite governor's report and widespread anger," Naqvi told PTI.

BJP president Rajnath Singh will send a high-level party delegation to Nandigram soon to take stock of the situation on the ground. Based on the team's report, BJP will raise the matter in parliament during the upcoming session beginning Thursday, he said.
