“Advani is not willing to speak. We aren’t sure if he will make a speech,” a senior BJP leader told HT. There also was an uncertainty about him attending the event. Advani, who has delivered the valedictory address at the meeting for the last several decades, eventually took an evening flight from Delhi to Bengaluru.

Leaders in Bengaluru claimed Advani was not among the list of scheduled speakers. Party sources do not rule out the possibility of Advani deciding to speak if requested by senior leaders.

“Guidance will be sought from all senior leaders,” said BJP spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain, adding, “Modiji will deliver the closing remarks”.

Modi and Shah reached Bengaluru on Thursday and held a meeting with the party office bearers to decide the agenda for the executive meeting starting Friday. The party will adopt two resolutions — on foreign policy and another covering political and economic issue.

The contentious land bill issue will also figure prominently in the meeting.
