The BJP’s North West Delhi candidate, Udit Raj, is turning to his old connections to touch base with the electorate in the last leg of poll campaigning.
His old associates will now go from door to door to apprise Dalits about the work Raj has done for backward communities and to promise them reservation in jobs in the private sector.
Raj has roped in nearly 1,500 people from the Muslim community as well as from Dalit sections such as Valmikis, Khatiks and Paasis.And from Monday, they have begun doing the rounds of rural areas of the constituency such as Sultanpuri and Mangolpuri, where a majority of Dalits reside.
"Forming about 350 teams - each comprising four to five persons - Raj’s associates have decided to cover every household of the backward communities by Tuesday evening before the deadline for campaigning gets over," said a party source.

{{/usCountry}}“If voted to power, Raj would be instrumental in providing the weaker sections reservation in jobs in private sector and make sure that SC/ ST Empowerment Fund reaches the right people,” said a party official.
Meanwhile, Raj on Monday held a public meeting in which he promised to chalk out a time-bound growth programme for the constituency, if voted to power. “Safety and security of senior citizens and womenfolk, education, sanitation and transport facilities are the burning issues which will be given top priority,” he added.
According to party officials, about 100 office-bearers and workers of the Aam Aadmi Party joined the BJP recently, indicating a drift in the former’s vote bank.
