BHOPAL MUNICIPAL Corporation (BMC) council’s special meeting on Wednesday is likely to see the politicisation of the recent flood situation in the City.
BJP corporators are ready to attack Mayor Sunil Sood and the BMC administration. On the other hand, Congress corporators are likely to rake up the issue of alleged plot allotment on nullahs by then BJP Government in year 1992. The Congress Government had then formed the Jagapati Committee for investigation into this allotment.
The special meeting has been convened on the demand of BJP corporators to discuss the recent flood situation in the City. In the 66-member general council, the BJP has a majority with 40 corporators.
At a meeting to seek guidance from senior party leaders including MP Kailash Joshi, MLA Umashankar Gupta and district BJP president Surendranath Singh, BJP corporators were told to target the Mayor for not handling the flood situation in the City properly.
Some party corporators, however, said the BMC has been carrying out developmental works in their respective wards. Corporators including Sanjay Sharma, Tulsa Verma and Shivmani Maran said satisfactory relief works had been carried out in their wards.
In a meeting chaired by Mayor Sunil Sood on Monday, Congress corporators also decided to demand more funds from the State Government for the improvement of nullahs. So far, the State Government has provided Rs 1.5 crore for flood relief works.

{{/usCountry}}Congress corporators’ group chief whip Salim Ahmed said they would ask how the State Government used Rs 100 crore provided by the Union Government for flood relief.
Earlier, some BJP corporators had asked the Mayor how the BMC had spent Rs 1.5 crore given by the State Government. The Congress corporators also said the BMC had demanded Rs 28 crore for the widening of nullah. They said the State Government should provide this fund to the BMC.
