Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday criticised BJP leaders for using derogatory language and distorting facts on human rights and Congress’ development record.
Addressing an election rally at Jaipur’s Ramleela grounds, he said, “BJP leaders are trying to distort facts. They recently talked about human rights at a meeting in Jodhpur without looking at their own record.”
He was possibly referring to Gujarat anti-Muslim pogrom, which is considered a dark spot on BJP PM candidate and Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi’s political career.
Without naming Modi, Singh said senior BJP leaders had once told him to follow his ‘raj dharma’ (a ruler’s duty), referring to an advice former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee is said to have given to Modi in the aftermath of the pogrom.
Lauding the Ashok Gehlot government’s record of governance, he said Barmer Refinery, Coach Factory in Bhilwara, Metro train in Jaipur and International Airport in Kishangarh were some of its hallmarks.
Elections will be held in the state on December 1 amid speculations that anti-incumbency factor was strong and the BJP might form the next government.
