The state unit of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) has criticised the arrest and brutal torture of its activists in Srinagar by local police. Addressing the media at the party office in Jammu, state BJYM president Ravinder Raina condemned the inhuman act of policemen, including the officials posted in Kothi Baag police station.
He demanded immediate action against the guilty policemen and said if no action was taken, the state BJYM will go to the State Human Rights Commission besides moving court to seek justice.
Raina said BJYM activists were holding a protest to seek medical facilities for people affected due to the bandh and curfew in south Kashmir, when police detained the peacefully protesting BJYM activists and took them to Kothi Baag police station where they were brutally beaten up by cricket bats and abused by the policemen.
He added that the nationalist youth in the Kashmir Valley are being selectively targeted by the authorities and stone-pelters and terrorists are being patronised.
Raina demanded immediate suspension of all the guilty policemen and said if that doesn't happen BJYM will take the issue to the court and to the streets.
BJYM state vice-president Bharat Sharma, state secretaries Inderjeet Singh Sambyal and Ajay Pargal and state secretary Ishant Gupta were also present in the press conference.
