MEMBERS OF the District Planning Committee, including Bhopal North MLA Arif Aqueel and Bhopal South MLA Umashankar Gupta on Tuesday alleged that the Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) showed bias in removing illegal construction from the basements in MP Nagar. They also questioned sudden end of drive against the basements in MP Nagar. Minister in charge of district Raghavji chaired the meeting.
Aqueel, supported by other members, alleged that there was selective removal of illegal construction from the basements in MP Nagar. Gupta also said the building basements on small plots were targeted and the drive was conducted in the biased manner. Aqueel also asked who directed the BMC to stop the drive against illegal construction in basements.
Mayor Sunil Sood, however, said the drive was stopped on the state government’s directives. The decision for resuming the drive would be taken soon, he said. He denied the allegations of showing bias in removal of illegal construction of basements in MP Nagar.
However, it was decided that a committee should be formed to take the decision on this issue. This committee included, Mayor Sunil Sood, District Collector S K Mishra, SP Anant Kumar Singh, BDA chairman Dhrunarayan Singh, MLAs Umashankar Gupta and Arif Aqueel, BMC Commissioner Manish Singh and BJP leader Rameshwar Sharma.
During the discussion on pending issues, the BMC commissioner assured that the decision regarding the basements of Rangmahal Tower would be taken within 10 days. Corporator Anil Agrawal had raised the issue at the meetings in the past. Aqueel also said that verification and inquiry should be conducted into purchase of medicines during previous superintendent of Hamidia Hospital. The district collector assured that the inquiry would be completed in a month.

{{/usCountry}}The members also raised the issue of problems being faced by people in getting loan through the District Industries Centre (DIC). They said the DIC failed to coordinate between the loan seekers and the banks. Anil Agrawal also raised the issue of illegal hoardings in the City. Agrawal also demanded that the BMC should not renew the contract with the advertising companies installing hoardings. The contract for advertisements will end in March this year.
