BNHS to auction paintings

The Bombay Natural History Society?s (BNHS) art auction, which will be held at the Taj Mahal Hotel, Colaba, on Tuesday is expected to fetch over Rs 3 crore.

Vultures are going to make more than Rs 3 crore on Tuesday. The Bombay Natural History Society’s (BNHS) art auction, which will be held at the Taj Mahal Hotel, Colaba, on Tuesday is expected to fetch over Rs 3 crore.

A total of 71 works of art will go under the hammer.

The auction has seen participation by some of the country’s biggest talents such as Ram Kumar, Akbar Padamsee, Raza, Manjeet Bawa, Sudhir Patwardhan, Rabin Mondal, Paritosh Sen, Ajay De, Sunil Das, C. Jagdish, J.S. Munnolli among others.

“This is one of the first art auctions by BNHS. Apart form raising funds, it is also aimed at creating awareness,” said Hemendra Kothari, Vice-President, BNHS.

Most of the proceeds will go towards funding BNHS research, conservation and education works. The main projects to be funded are bird species of vultures and Jerdon’s Courser, a rare bird found only in the Cuddappa district of Andhra Pradesh. The bidders list is as impressive as the artistes —Editor of Sanctuary Magazine Bittu Sahgal, art publisher Lavesh Jagasia, artist Suryakant Lokhande are some of the registered bidders.
