IT MAY sound odd but is true that out of 40,000 students belonging to Kaushambi district, only 100 are taking the High School and Intermediate examinations this year.
Disclosing this to Hindustan Times, UP Board secretary Vasudev Yadav said here on Monday that these examinees had filled up Board exam forms from different colleges in Kaushambi that were notorious for mass copying. However, their forms were rejected by the Board.
Meanwhile, on a writ filed by the colleges concerned, the High Court directed the Board officials to allow these students to appear in 2006 examinations. While allowing them to take the exam, the Board shifted their centres from Kaushambi to Allahabad city. As a result, only 100 students are finally taking the exam.
Only one examinee from Mata Prasad Uchchtar School, Kaushambi, appeared in examination at Colonelganj Inter College exams centre. Similar reports were received from KP Inter College and Jamuna Christian Inter College.
The secretary added that rest of the students decided not to take exam as they saw no scope for copying here. He added copying in Aligarh was also curbed this year. There too, only 90,000 students out of 1.70 lakh are taking the exam because of strict measures taken by the Board.

As many as 114 centres have been declared sensitive in the district.Sources said over one lakh students usually appeared in UP Board examination in Kaushambi district every year. Here, colleges allegedly allow students from different states to take the exam on paying hefty amounts.
