Police in Kashmir have fished out a body of a suspected militant carrying arms and ammunition in Bandipora.
The body according to Srinagar-based police spokesman was recovered on Monday morning by police in Sumbal Bandipora area in North Kashmir.
"Body of a suspected militant has been retrieved from a water body in Bandipora this morning. He is carrying some arms and ammunition,'' the spokesman said.
Police have recovered a pistol and some ammunition from the militant.
According to police sources the suspected militant was drowned when police had chased two militants who had attacked a patrol party in Pattan.
"In the evening of July 31, 2015, two militants who were boarding a Tavera vehicle bearing registration no. JK01Q-8792 fired upon the naka party headed by inspector Mohammad Saleem, SHO P/S Pattan at Mirgund. In this incident, the SHO Pattan and three other police personnel were injured. Immediately, after this incident, all naka points on the roads were activated. One such naka party of police and army challenged the fleeing militants and one of the militants jumped into Ferozpur nullah and got drowned,'' said a police spokesman.
"The body was spotted by some civilians of Gulabwari Sumbal in Ferozpur nullah. The police took the body into the custody and the body was later on identified as of Tariq Ahmad Mir. The said militant was a close associate of Qayoom Najar and an active member of Lashkar-e-Islam militant outfit. He was involved in a number of attacks including the recent Sopore attacks,'' the spokesman added.
