MUCH BEFORE the political parties could finalise names of candidates for various posts of urban local bodies, the hectic lobbying going on within the Congress assumed greater dimensions today with senior leader DP Bora tendering his resignation from primary membership of the party.
Bora’s resignation comes at a point when his son Neeraj Bora appears to be lobbying for a BSP ticket for the mayor’s post. In a letter sent to the Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Bora has said that rich and affluent people were dominating the party in Lucknow.
Those given important positions were also depending on the rich and the affluent, said Bora adding that the Congress did not care for farmers, Dalits, minorities and other weaker sections of the society. The Congress continued to support the Mulayam government though it was deep-rooted in corruption and victimising farmers and Dalits, said Bora.
Bora has obviously targeted Union Minister of State for Steel Dr Akhilesh Das who is likely to have a decisive role in the selection of party’s candidate for the mayor’s post. So Bora tendered his resignation following indications that the Congress would not field his son for the Lucknow mayor’s post.
Bora was first elected an MLA in 1969 on a BKD ticket. He later remained with the Janata Party, Janata Dal and the BSP. His resignation indicates that the ‘aya ram gaya ram’ phenomenon may gain momentum in days to come.

{{/usCountry}}Asked about his son’s decision, Bora said, he was not aware of his move to join the BSP. While Bora feigned ignorance about his son sources said his son was already at the BSP office to pursue his case. This obviously indicates that Bora too would join the BSP in the due course.
