The recent skirmishes on the Indo-Pak border can cast a shadow on the BJP-PDP alliance which could form the next government in Jammu and Kashmir.
In the current scenario, the BJP government in the Centre might find it difficult to give in to People's Democratic Party's condition of resumption of early talks with Pakistan - one of the core issues in the deal between the two parties.
Speaking to HT, PDP spokesman Nayeem Akhtar said, "Our stand on core issues remains unchanged. Dialogue and reconciliation besides revocation of ASFPA, Article 370 remains our agenda."
The alliance agenda for PDP, according to sources, is resumption of the dialogue process on Kashmir, both with Pakistan as well as separatists, besides revocation of ASFPA and giving more teeth to Article 370.
While BJP sources said the party gave up its demand of getting the chief minister's chair on a rotational basis and might settle for the post being taken by PDP patron Mufti Sayeed for a full six-year term. The BJP might get the deputy chief minister's post besides some portfolios and as it is keen on being part of the government.
However, BJP's first draft for common minimum programme is unlikely to touch contentious issues like Article 370. Though a section in the party is ready to consider removal of ASFPA from peaceful areas and assurance of zero tolerance of human rights abuse in areas where the controversial law would be in place, a dialogue with separatists and Pakistan at the movement might not find many takers even within the party.
