Both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) released pre-poll surveys on Sunday, claiming their leaders would become the chief ministers.
The similarity just doesn’t end here. Both the surveys claimed the same percentage of people expressing support for Harsh Vardhan and Arvind Kejriwal — 39%. And both of them gave Congress’ Sheila Dikshit the second place with 29% people saying they want her to return as the CM.
The AAP survey puts BJP’s chief ministerial candidate at 26% while BJP puts AAP’s leader at 22%.
The AAP survey was conducted on November 30 across 17 constituencies with a total sample size of 1,643. The sample size for BJP’s survey was 12,780 respondents across 70 constituencies.
The AAP survey gave itself 44 seats, Congress 11 and BJP 14 seats while that by the BJP claims to win 36 seats, gave 11 to Congress and 5 to AAP. The BJP survey also claimed that as many as 18 seats were too close to call.
Yogendra Yadav, AAP leader, said support for AAP cut across all segments of the society, but a little better among the young voters (among those below 26 years of age and those in the 26-35 years age bracket). “Significantly, we are also leading among Dalits and have equalled the Congress among Muslim voters,” he said.
The BJP survey was conducted during November 24-28, the findings for which were accessed by HT as it was party’s internal survey and not released officially. This shows a clear positive growth for the BJP since it announced Harsh Vardhan as its chief ministerial candidate.

{{/usCountry}}“The four Modi rallies will help, and we have asked candidates to use much more personalised messaging, including phone calls from Modi, to sway the undecided voters,” added another leader.
Referring to the share in preference for the chief minister, the BJP survey asserted: “A total of 10% people were undecided about CM preference. We need to continue to highlight Dr Harsh Vardhan and his achievements to increase this gap.”
