Mukul Jain was kidnapped from outside his Rajendra Nagar home on December 26 and released on December 27 after the family handed over the ransom.

After the boy returned safely, the police arrested Deepak Jatav, Yogesh Aggarwal, Umar Ali, Mohammed Mustafa, Panna Lal, Badan Singh, Ramesh Kumar and Shahid Ali on charges of kidnapping. Rs 4 lakh, a Pulsar motorcycle, six mobile phones and the Maruti car used during the kidnapping were recovered from them.

Police said Mukul was taken to Rampuri area at a cyber-cafe — Aggarwal computers — operated by Yogesh and Deepak.

The boy’s father, Abhay Jain, has a telecom supply business in Delhi. He said there was no connection between the kidnappers and the family. The police had earlier said Mukul was kidnapped due to a business rivalry, but later said it was a family dispute. SSP L Ravi Kumar said the kidnappers’ mobile numbers were put on electronic surveillance and traced to Brij Vihar near the Delhi border.
