Former union home secretary Balmiki Prasad Singh on Wednesday took over as the 13th Governor of Sikkim.

Acting Chief Justice A P Subba administered the oath of office to Singh at the swearing-in ceremony held at Raj Bhawan in Gangtok.
Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Kumar Chamling, his ministerial colleagues and senior state government officials were present at the ceremony.
Singh said he would work for the socio-economic development of the Himalayan state and ensure that infrastructure for education was strengthened for the benefit of students.
Ensuring uninterrupted traffic on the National Highway 31A between Sikkim and other parts of the country was also on his list of priorities, he said.
On border trade between Indian and China through Nathu La, he said he would take up the issue of revision of goods on the trade list so that the volume of bilateral trade grows between the two neighbours.
