P Indira Reddy, a resident of Hyderabad, was declared "brain dead" a few days following an accident. But she lives on as her organs were donated to the
needy.

Reddy (53), a mother of two sons, gifted her organs giving a new lease of life to several persons on the eve of Mother's Day.

She was going to a temple near Lal Bahadur Nagar here on the morning of May 6 on a two-wheeler driven by a relative. The vehicle hit a ditch and she fell down and sustained severe head injuries. She was rushed to a nearby super-speciality hospital for treatment.

The doctors, however, informed her family members on May 7 that they were helpless and could do nothing as Indira was 'brain dead'.

Mohan Foundation, an NGO working for promotion of organ donation, briefed the family members about how they can keep Indira Reddy alive by donating her organs.

"They knew what organ donation is. So, they readily agreed," Mohan Foundation, CEO, Raghuram told PTI.

Reddy's liver, heart valves, kidneys and eyes were retrieved yesterday and distributed among several hospitals in the city for donating to the needy.
