Police said here that the BSF had fired on a gang when they were crossing the border along with a few cattle on Friday.

One of the persons, who died in BSF firing, was a Bangladeshi, police said. His body was sent for post-mortem.

The injured person was admitted to the Basirhat sub-divisional hospital.

Meanwhile, a 'smuggler' was killed in an encounter between the BSF and its Bangladeshi counterpart late last night near Gede border in Nadia District.

Deputy Inspector General of the BSF alleged that the Bangladesh security personnel opened fire across the border when the BSF chased a cattle smuggler.

IG of BSF (South Bengal) Somesh Goyal rushed to Gede this morning as the situation in the bordering areas was tensed.
