Officials said the sectoral-level flag meeting of the two border forces, however, referred the dispute regarding the 220 acres of land on the border in the two districts to 'higher authorities'.

On June 28, firing was reported between the two forces over the alleged occupation of 220 acres of Indian land by Bangladeshi cultivators.

At the flag meeting held on Sunday night, both sides decided to withdraw the additional troops reinforced after tension escalated following skirmishes.

According to BSF sources, people living near the border outposts of the BSF which was targetted by the BDR, were shifted to safer places after the mortar attack.

The displaced people have been lodged in relief camps in various schools and local club houses which were at a safe distance from the border, sources said.
