A Border Security Force (BSF) constable shot dead two seniors following a spat and then killed himself at an outpost along the India-Bangladesh border in western Assam's Dhubri district on Thursday.

The alleged shooter has been identified as constable Prabhakar Mishra, who was posted as a cook at the Hatichar border outpost and the slained as assistant sub-inspectors (ASIs) Surender Kumar from Haryana and Babu Lal from Uttar Pradesh respectively. Mishra was from Bihar. He first shot the officials and then turned his service rifle on himself at around 10.30am following a spat, officials said.

The Hatichar outpost falls under the 17 Battalion of the BSF which keeps an eye on the movements from Bangladesh.
"We are yet to find out what led to the argument between the cook and the two ASIs. Almost all the other BSF personnel at Hatichar were out on river patrol in the morning shift when the incident happened," a commandant said requesting anonymity.
