A Border Security Force (BSF) officer shot himself dead at a forward post on the India-Pakistan Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua district on Thursday, police said.

A Border Security Force (BSF) officer shot himself dead at a forward post on the India-Pakistan Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua district on Thursday, police said.

The officer, identified as Assistant Commandant Sushil Kumar, shot himself dead with his service pistol at Manyari post, about 80 km south-west of Jammu, around 4 pm.

No other details were available, police said. Police have registered a case and begun investigations.

"We are investigating and trying to find out what forced him to commit suicide," a police official said.
