SS Tomar said the situation on the Line of Control (LoC) is under control and the BSF was being vigilant and maintaining security in the required areas.

"Right now, it has been peaceful for some time. The Line of Control witnesses ceasefire violations from time to time, but there has been no such incident in the international border for the last forty days," said Tomar.

Adding to the series of ceasefire violations by Pakistan over the past couple of months, another incident took place in Poonch district on September 16.

Tension has been running high along one of the world's most militarised borders in Kashmir since August 6 when five Indian soldiers were ambushed and killed while on a routine patrol.

A truce along the Kashmir border has been hallmark for nearly a decade even though it has been broken often by tit-for-tat artillery fire and the occasional cross-border ambush by the two neighbours.
